Sometimes called cellular steel deck, are panels made up of a top panel also called the hat that is assembled in the factory with a flat steel sheet on the bottom or called the plate. The assembled panels consist of longitudinal cells or cavities intended for acoustical or utility purposes.

The flutes of the deck can then be filled with a sound absorbing material. When sound in the room travels to the decking, The insulation reduces the sound in a room by dampening the reverberation off of the decking.
